Né en 1982, Xavier Thollard découvre la musique à l’âge de 9 ans au CNR de Rennes, où il suit des études de percussions. Il entame en parallèle des cours de piano classique, et c’est à 14 ans qu’il décide d’étudier le jazz. Après avoir suivi des cours de piano-jazz à la M.J.C. Bréquigny de Rennes, il apprend surtout au contact d’autres musiciens, en intégrant plusieurs formations. Il participe également à des stages de jazz, notamment à Marciac en 2001.
Depuis 2002, l’année de son arrivée à Paris, Xavier Thollard collabore à de nombreux projets musicaux et intègre notamment le Big Band des Universités de Paris (récemment rebaptisé Crazy Big Band), formation créée en 2004 par Thierry Lalo. Il monte également un duo avec l’harmoniciste Yvonnick Prené.
Son premier disque en trio « Prime Times », sorti en 2008, est sélectionné par la FNAC dans son repérage « jeune talent ». « Hôi An », sorti en 2009, reçoit également un vif succès (A Nous PARIS, « coup de coeur » FNAC).
Depuis 2009, il participe à un projet de conférence/concert autour de la musique de Michel Petrucciani, avec le contrebassiste Simon Désert et le batteur Simon Bernier.
Xavier Thollard sort en mars 2011 son premier enregistrement en piano solo, dont le répertoire est essentiellement consacré aux standards de jazz.
En 2012, il forme un duo avec le saxophoniste Jonathan Orland. En 2013, il fonde le groupe Elec-Trio avec les musiciens Antoine Karacostas et Axel R, dont le premier disque « Giant Steps », allie jazz et musiques électroniques.
Xavier Thollard forme en 2014 un nouveau Trio avec Mátyás Szandai à la contrebasse et Simon Bernier à la batterie autour d’un nouveau répertoire de compositions et standards revisités, formation qui enregistre un premier disque « Nardis » sorti en 2017, et un deuxième « (re) compositions » sorti en 2020.
En 2022, Xavier Thollard enregistre un nouveau disque en piano solo « ostinatos » dans lequel chaque plage est dédiée à l’un des grands pianistes qui l’ont influencé (Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett…)

Xavier Thollard was born in 1982, and started to learn music at the age of 9 in the Rennes Conservatory of Music in France. After percussions and classical piano studies, he decided to learn jazz, and had piano-jazz lessons in a district school. He especially learned in contact with other musicians, playing in many formations, and having jazz training courses (like Marciac’s in 2001).
Since he moved to Paris in 2002, Xavier Thollard has led several musical projects and collaborated with many musicians, in particular by playing with the Big Band des Universités de Paris, which was created in 2004 by Thierry Lalo, and playing in duet with french harmonica player Yvonnick Prené.
His first CD trio as a leader « Prime Times », released in 2008, was selected as “young talent” by the french music store FNAC. « Hôi An », released in 2009, also received a huge success (A Nous PARIS, « coup de coeur » FNAC).

Xavier Thollard formed a new trio in 2014 with Mátyás Szandai on double bass and Simon Bernier on drums with a new repertoire of compositions and revisited standards, this trio recorded « Nardis » album released in 2017, and « (re)compositions » in 2020.
In 2022, he released a new solo piano album called « Ostinatos », in which each track is dedicated to a great pianist who influenced him (Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett…)
